Hi, I am José, a physicist. Since my first year of physics undergrad, I have been interested in learning about the physics that governs atmospheric processes. While I was still an undergraduate student, I used satellite signals to study changes in ion density in the outermost layer of the atmosphere and investigate the effects on telecommunications. Since then, I have been working with a large range of remote sensing instruments to study the various atmospheric processes.
I often wondered about how snowflakes form up there in the clouds. I was curious to learn about their growth and the factors that shape them. During my PhD, I combined data from 3 different radars (X-, Ka-, and W-band) to study the formation of snowflakes.
As a postdoctoral researcher, I had the opportunity to combine wind lidar and cloud radar observations to develop a novel setup for retrieving wind profiles, taking advantage of the synergy of both types of observations. I also developed a Python package to retrieve the profiles (lidarwind).
I also like exploring prototyping boards (e.g. Raspberry Pi and Arduino) and developing practical solutions with them. One example is the directional bike lights, and another is a didactical weather station.
